What one would call Out of Body experiences; others would call Lucid Dreams. A lucid dream is one in which you suddenly recognize that

I suggest you buy yourself a copy of EXPLORING THE WORLD OF LUCID DREAMING by Stephen LaBerge & Howard Rheingold. It's an inexpensive paperback. You'll learn a lot about some of the phenomena that may be frightening to you right now.
Regarding your spiritual quest: My advice is to ignore the preachers, and trust your intuition. Religion and spirituality are different critters. I was religious for much of my young life. In recent years, I've devoted myself to learning about spirituality; learning about it and putting it into practice in my life. And I would never, never go back to organized religion. It may be fine for some people, but not for me; not ever again.
Let me recommend one more book to you: THE POWER OF NOW by Eckhart Tolle. This is the best book I know of for those who want to begin exploring true spirituality. It will open Doors for you, and lead you to other mystics who, like Tolle, are fine writers.
Last thought: you need to begin meditating, as a way of slowing down your busy mind. Tolle has a lot of wise words to say about the value of meditation.
I wish you the best on your spiritual quest! You can totally remake your life, and achieve a deep and abiding contentment. And your talent for lucid dreaming will be a catalyst in your quest.
